Calaveras Sheriffs Office
Detective Rudi Leon has been a member of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office since October of 2005. Upon entry to the Sheriff’s Office, he was assigned to the patrol division and worked throughout Calaveras County. Even as a newer and inexperienced Law Enforcement Officer, Rudi was quickly recognized as a solid decision maker and a reliable employee. Despite the fact that English is a second language for Rudi, he was discovered to be a competent and intuitive interviewer of both victims and suspects.
Rudi was transferred to the Calaveras Narcotic Enforcement Unit in November of 2007. During this assignment, he was heavily relied upon to provide Spanish/English translation for his unit and for the entire Department. His assignment included the investigation and intervention of Drug Endangered Children. Because of working with Drug Endangered Children, in 2007 Rudi coordinated a collection of funds from his coworkers. These funds were used to purchase Christmas gifts for children who would otherwise not receive any. The practice of purchasing gifts for children in need has expanded throughout the entire department and is now an annual department tradition.
Rudi was rotated back to the patrol division were he handled several calls for service involving domestic violence victims. Rudi assisted these victims with obtaining services through the Women’s Crisis Center. Rudi volunteers to keep working with social programs to help the county children.
Rudi was transferred to the Detectives division in July of 2016. Since working at the Detectives division Rudi has worked together with Operation Care on several occasions. One of these cases involved a family from Mexico that was asking for assistance with their criminal case. Rudi worked with Operation Care in obtaining Cells phones and accommodations for the family so they could communicate with themselves and have a safe place to stay. Rudi has worked with Operation Care in providing assistance for sexual assaults victims who reside in Amador County but the crimes occurred in Calaveras County.
Rudi has demonstrated consistent excellence in his 15-year career with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. He has trained the current and next generation of law enforcement and leads by example. His empathy for victims is genuine, and his drive to hold criminals accountable for their actions is sincere.
As a tenured Law Enforcement Officer, Rudi has held the positions of Deputy, Narcotics Enforcement Officer, Field Training Officer, Corporal, and Detective. He has continued to grow in his professional accomplishments and has honed his skills in law enforcement. His peers have voted him as worthy of receiving the “Deputy of the Year Award” and his professional associates have recognized him for his achievements.
