What is Teen Dating Violence and Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM)?

TDVAM is a national effort to raise awareness about teen dating violence during the month of February with orange being the national color to bring awareness.

Teen dating violence (TDV) is a type of domestic violence or intimate partner violence. It occurs between two people in a close relationship. TDV is the use of coercive, intimidating, or manipulative behaviors to exert power and control over a partner. It can happen in person or electronically especially through-unwanted texting and social media posts. Unhealthy relationships can start early and last a lifetime. Teens often think some behaviors, like teasing and name-calling, are a “normal” part of a relationship—but these behaviors can become abusive and develop into serious forms of violence. However, many teens do not report unhealthy behaviors because they are afraid to tell family and friends.

2026 Theme “Real Love Respects”

This year’s theme “Real Love Respects,” cuts through the noise by focusing on what real love should look and feel like. In a world full of mixed messages, this theme centers around one truth: respect is non-negotiable. It empowers youth to recognize harmful patterns early and to expect more from love. Because respect is everything, it’s earned, it’s honest, and it never makes you question your worth. Remember: If it’s real, it’s respectful.

Everyone is deserving of a healthy relationship!

Why Get Involved?

Dating violence is more common than many people think. One in three teens in the U.S. will experience physical, sexual or emotional abuse by someone they are in a relationship with before they become adults.

We need your help to spread awareness about dating abuse and let everyone know they deserve a safe and healthy relationship.

Operation Care has several programs and classes devoted to promoting healthy relationships! LEARN MORE
