Sexual Assault Awareness Month is about more than awareness -the ultimate goal is prevention. Sexual harassment, assault, and abuse can happen anywhere, including in online spaces. As we connect online, we can learn how to practice digital consent, intervene when we see harmful content or behaviors, and ensure that online spaces — whether they be workspaces, classrooms, social media platforms, or otherwise — are respectful and safe.
This April, during Sexual Assault Awareness Month, learn how you can practice consent online, keep the kids in your life safe from abuse, facilitate and participate in respectful online communities. In addition, explore the impact that trauma from online abuse can have and the options available for survivors looking for support. As new platforms emerge and technology expands, by leading with these foundational principles we can build safe online spaces now and into the future.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month
Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) is nationally recognized as an awareness and education campaign designed to educate the nation about sexual violence. Operation Care is making a stand against sexual violence and engage bystanders to take action.

We encourage Amador County residents to participate by wearing teal, the national color for SAAM, and to help us promote sexual assault awareness during the month of April by joining us in any or all of the following ways:

NO MORE WEEK
In preparation of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Operation Care has teamed up with NO More to make a stand against sexual violence and engage bystanders to take action (read more). We encourage agencies and individuals to say NO MORE so that together we can end domestic violence and sexual assault. #NOMORE

Baskets filled with SAAM items can be found at various locations throughout the county. Spread the word and invite your friends and family to show their support by speaking up against sexual violence. April 28th Denim Day
Wear Denim
Operation Care encourages the community to wear jeans on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, to raise awareness about sexual assault and show support for victims of sexual assault. Denim Day was established in 1996 when a rape case was overturned by the Italian Supreme Court. In this case, the perpetrator, who had been previously convicted for sexual assault, argued that because the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the perpetrator take off her pants during her assault, therefore making it consensual. This decision created a widespread campaign known as “Denim Day” in which jeans are worn on the last Wednesday of April to protest sexual violence.
